So yes...Soon there will be presidential elections in France. Not
that I have had alot of time to think about it. Even when I'm not at
work my head is still satured by international news, Pinochet, Iran
with its Conference to prove the holocaust didn't happen, Karzai, the
afghan president crying for his people and Annan supposedly very
"tough" on the United states - in a speech that was only just..
well..very diplomatic. There are still so many things we are not
saying out loud.
And as I watched the Unconvienent truth - that has some interesting figures
but unfortunatetly isn't a very gripping film and read about imperial
ambitions, I stopped at this paragraph:
"It's fine to get a better or maybe a less worse candidate in, but that's the
beginning, not the end. If you end there, you might as well not vote.
Unless you develop an ongoing, living demcratic culture that can compel
the candidates, they're not going to do the things you voted for.
Pushing a button and then going home is not going to change anything."
Noam Chomsky 12th of february 2004
How true that is. I know this is no major discovery but however..
There are so many things going wrong. And none of the people "available"
to choose from in France's presidential elections are really going to do much
about it. Unless they feel compelled to...by their citizens. Well, at least in France,
compered to other contries I know well, people voice their discontentment
Not that I want to change the world, I just want to stop pretending.

Just saw the film Babel a few days ago by Alejandro Gonzalez
Inarritu - known for previous films such as 21 grams and Amores perros.
He is a wonderful filmmaker and has this "special touch", that little
something that makes you think long after you come out of the cinema
about what you've seen. I really liked the different stories that all
have something to say about the society we live in, and actually how it
is not at all working like it should.
Especially I found the vision of the role of the media in modern
society acurate. How the media sometimes distorts reality - not
knowingly perhaps but just in that constant hastyness. With new
technologies and people having less and less time to accord to one
media, since there are so many available, we are in constant
competition - just to get someone to watch (or read, or listen).
Information has to be available right now, at all times, everywhere.
This automatically generates less accurate information getting out,
which often than not has not been verified properly. And it is very
easy to make mistakes - since you have to be the first to inform (CNN's
slogan is "be the first to know" while BBC goes with "the most trusted
name in news"). Sadly, its not enough to have a nice slogan, when most
of these channels operate in the same way, it is hard to believe that
all that is getting trough is the truth, and nothing but the truth.
Without even trying to go into what "truth" really means. There are
often many truths in one story.

Another advert for France 24.. slightly better than the football kid
(which I really didn't like and that's why I haven't put a link here..
don't worry.. you didn't miss anything spectacular).
This one however is.. hmmm.. well intriguing perhaps but I have a hard time understaning the "news" part in it.
Good
thing I didn't go into advertising. I am considering a career move at
some point however - maybe into something that doesnt involve "24 hours
a day" and "news"
any ideas?
